The payment method is the last door before the money. If it is narrow or suspicious, all the work before it is wasted. Here are the three methods actually used here.
1. Cash on delivery
WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Cash on delivery → Enable. In the description write it plainly: you pay the courier on pickup. A share of local buyers still trusts only this — worth having, even if you want to move them to cards.
2. Direct bank transfer
Payments → Direct bank transfer (BACS) → enter the account name, bank and account number. The buyer sees the details at checkout and in the order email. Tip: ask them to write the order number as the payment reference — your accounting will thank you.
3. Card payments (via your bank)
This is the only way you get paid IMMEDIATELY, and it cuts refused parcels. The path:
- A bank contract — the bank requires a registered company, a site with terms and a privacy policy, and company details visible on the site
- Technical details — the bank issues merchant identifiers and secret keys
- The module — installed and connected with those details; we do this with our Premium modules
- Test transactions — the bank provides a test mode; you test the full order, the confirmation and the callback to the site
- Live — after approval you switch to production
The per-transaction fee is set by the bank — ask upfront, they differ.
The mandatory test before the first order
- Place a real small order with every payment method
- Check: order status, email to you, email to the buyer, the amount to the cent
- Also check a CANCELLED payment — the buyer must return to the site with a clear message
A conversion tip
Card logos and a secure payment note next to the button, plus a visible phone number — they calm first-time buyers. And a small discount for online payment quietly shifts the habit from cash to card.
