Our site is from 2018, time for a new one is not a reason. Age is not the problem; not doing its job is. Here are the real signs.
The seven signs
- 1. It does not work on mobile — if you must zoom to read, you lose 60-80% of visitors. That alone is enough.
- 2. It loads slowly — over 4-5 seconds on a phone means half leave before seeing it
- 3. You cannot change anything yourself — every detail needs a developer and a wait
- 4. It brings no leads — visits but no calls. That is not design, it is structure and copy: the visitor does not know what to do.
- 5. It does not show on Google — old technology, no SEO basics, no content
- 6. The technology is obsolete — Flash, PHP 5.x, an old WordPress that cannot be updated: a security risk too
- 7. It does not look like your business — the company grew, the services changed, the site talks about something else
Three cases when you do NOT need a redesign
- I am bored of it — it is old to you; the visitor sees it for the first time. Careful: a redesign for taste can wreck rankings.
- The problem is the content — if the copy does not sell, a new design will not help. Text first, then makeup.
- The problem is speed — often solved with optimisation and better hosting, for ten times less money.
If you do redesign — the most important thing
Keep the addresses or set up 301 redirects. The classic disaster: a beautiful new site and traffic down 70% because every old address returns a 404. One day of planning prevents it.
Also: record your current numbers (visits, leads, positions) before launch — so you know whether the new one is genuinely better.
