A question we get at every registration. The answer depends on one thing: who your customer is.
Take a local domain if…
- Your clients are in the country
- You work locally: services, a store delivering here, a restaurant, a clinic
- You want local trust — it says we are here, registered, reachable
- You want a name that has long been taken on .com
Take .com if…
- You have or plan clients abroad
- You are software, design or consulting — a business without borders
- Your brand is in English and should sound international
- You plan to sell in foreign markets
The simple rule
If 80% of your money comes from home — the local domain. If you do not know where the business will be in 3 years — .com is the safer choice; it works everywhere.
Why many take both
A domain is the cheapest part of the whole story. Taking both protects you: nobody can grab your name on the other extension (it happens — a competitor or a reseller), and one redirects to the other with a single 301.
If your brand has value — take both. That is insurance for pocket money.
Choosing the name itself
- Short and easy to dictate on the phone (test: say it aloud)
- No hyphens or numbers if possible — they look unserious
- Check it is free on social media too
The detail that costs dearly
Never leave the domain registered in someone else's name (the developer took it). It is your identity — it must be on your company and your email.
Note: .mk and .мкд are registered through MARnet or an accredited registrar (marnet.mk) — not through us. We do the site, the hosting and the DNS.
