This article has no technology in it. No plugin, no setting. Just something we see constantly — and that costs the most money.
The scenario
A client invests in a site. Invests in ads. The site works, enquiries arrive. And then: the enquiry sits in the inbox for two days because I was busy. By the time they reply, the buyer chose whoever answered in 20 minutes.
The whole investment in site and ads is destroyed at the last step — the free step.
Why it matters so much
- The buyer is looking now. When someone sends an enquiry they usually send it to 2-3 places. Whoever replies first wins — not whoever is best.
- Speed reads as quality. If this is how they answer before I pay, what happens after?
- Interest evaporates. Motivation drops by the hour.
What to do (at no cost)
- Phone notification for every form enquiry — do not check email twice a day
- An auto-reply promising a real deadline: we got your message and reply within 4 working hours. The buyer relaxes and waits for you.
- A copy to a second person — so nothing waits while you are on site
- A short first contact — not a full quote: hello, I saw your enquiry, may I call you in 10 minutes with two questions? That alone puts you first.
- A visible phone number everywhere — half of people will not type
The rule
Reply within one working hour. If you cannot, the auto-reply must say when you will — and you must keep it.
A check to run today
Send yourself an enquiry through your own form from another phone. Measure: how long until a reply? Did it arrive at all? Did it land in spam? Half of businesses discover their form has been going to spam for months — every one of those enquiries is lost money.
The point
You can have the best site in town and rank first on Google. If you answer in three days, the competitor with a worse site takes your clients — with a ringing phone and a person who picks up.
